The Tisza European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation with Limited Liability was registered on 26.10.2015 on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border section by the cooperation of Kisvárda, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg council and Zakarpats’ka region. The EGTC covers 18 704,4 km2, including the landscapes of Nyírség, Uzhanskyi National Nature Park, Sinevirska Poljana, Chorna Hora Nature Reserve, Pritisyanakiy Landscape Park and the regions of the rivers Tisza/Tisa and Szamos. The total population of the EGTC is 1 809 496 people and it is based in Kisvárda, Hungary.

The general objective of the EGTC is to promote cross-border cooperation between  the members of the Grouping in order to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion.

The specific objective of the EGTC is to implement cross-border cooperation in the following development areas: transport and communications infrastructure, energy, tourism, education, culture, sports, protection and development of the Tisza and its tributaries, logistics, support for SMEs, environment and nature conservation, agriculture, health, addressing the problems of the population along the borders.
