APPLYING ACCESSIBILITY TOOLS TO ADDRESS URBAN AND TRANSPORT PLANNING – The case of the Eurocity of Valença -Tui and the Euroregion of Galicia-Norte de Portugal
Abstract
The volume presents the results of the Junior Researchers’ Network of the COST Action TU1002 “Accessibility Instruments for Planning Practice in Europe.” The activities focused on the Eurocity recently established by the cities of Valença (PT) and Tui (ES), and, in a broader sense, on the Galicia–Northern Portugal Euroregion.
The main scientific outcomes of the book were as follows:
the examination of accessibility planning within the new Eurocity, taking into account the institutional and operational specificities of both municipalities and the two planning systems; the exploration of local and regional levels of cross-border interactions; the use of the concept of one or more accessibility instruments applied within the framework of the COST Action to address one or more planning issues currently on the agenda of the Eurocity and the Euroregion, such as local access to healthcare services, local access to networks of cultural and sports facilities, access to local public transport, and regional/international accessibility; and the design of the application of methodologies developed and tested within the COST Action in this cross-border, multinational planning environment.
