The publication presents the works submitted to the first round of the two-round architectural design competition “Close to nature lookouts” – Water tour lookout design competition. Before the call was put forward, a research on the municipalities of Szigetköz was carried out. The research indicates that there is an interest of the municipalities along the the Moson Danube to revive water tourism of the Moson Danube that has a long history, however, it has been neglected in recent times.

Due to this, several developments were formulated,in which a common element was the development of the lookouts. These lookouts could be defined as micro destinations and they do not represent direct destinations on their own. Nevertheless, lookouts in a systematic form could strengthen the attractiveness of the region. It is important to note that each municipality is committed to build lookouts in the future on the development locations selected by themselves.

In the spirit of partnership, common reflection and systematic cooperation, four member municipalities of the Arrabona EGTC, Abda, Dunaszeg, Kimle, and Kunsziget have launched a call for a joint design competition. In the spirit of this cooperation, more than 100 designers were registered  and more than 30 projects were submitted.

It was a common thought in most projects that the aim should be the planning of waterside lookouts closely connected to the water and its fauna that can be implemented in a short time by the competent municipality of the planning area. Although, these conditions might result in higher overall freedom, but as it is reflected in the common thought and evaluation criteria, the assessors and the municipalities have been expecting feasible, sustainable and attractive projects.

A further aim of the publication is to inspire others to develop similar buildings, with which they can present the value of their environment.
