Experience of European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC)
Abstract
European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) are an instrument promoting cooperation between the EU member states and regional and local authorities in the EU. Even though EGTCs have already existing since 2006, many questions arise in the course of founding an EGTC, among other things due to the lack of experience with this instrument in Germany. The publication will describe the experience of regions when establishing an EGTC, in the start-up phase and during the day-to-day work. It shows in how far political implementation is important for setting up an EGTC. Important as well is to develop a long-term perspective and to focus on practically oriented projects. EGTC nevertheless have to face the fact that national requirements have to be observed and thus new solutions to be found, especially as each EGTC is individual regarding its tasks and partner structures. The MORO issue is to help people learn from the experience of others, to interpret it against the background of their own situation thus dealing with challenges in a good way.
