Ceremonial welcome and gift-giving for children from Kharkiv
Information
From December 13-19, a group of children from the Kupiansk district of Kharkiv Oblast are vacationing at the Jánosi Helikon Hotel in Transcarpathia. This is the 11th time that children from Ukraine have been able to relax in Transcarpathia, thanks to financial support from the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
On Tuesday, the children visited the castle in Mukachevo, where they had the opportunity to meet Santa Claus in person. In the afternoon, the children and their companions were welcomed at an informal meeting by Endre Baracsi, Vice-President of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Assembly, László Vida, Consul General of Hungary in Beregszász, András Schumicky, employee of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service, Tamás Mester, founder of the Határtalan Segítség Alapítvány (Borderless Aid Foundation), Andrea Szabóné Cap, director of Tisza ETT, and Judit Jevcsák, deputy director of Tisza ETT. In their speeches, they all expressed their hope that the war in Ukraine would soon come to an end and that next time we would be able to celebrate together in peaceful circumstances. Consul General László Vida assured the guests that they could continue to count on the support of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Hungarian Government in their humanitarian work. During the event, Vice President Endre Baracsi and Director Andrea Szabóné Cap presented Tibor Bíró, owner of the Helikon Hotel, with a certificate of appreciation for his many years of cooperation.
The children thanked their hosts for their warm welcome with a cheerful musical performance. This was followed by the presentation of gifts to the children: thanks to the Maltese Charity Service and the Határtalan Segítség Alapítvány (Borderless Aid Foundation), each child received a shoebox, while Dutch supporters provided sweets for everyone. To conclude the program, all guests were treated to a taste of Uzhhorod’s famous cake, as is now tradition. The rest of the program will see the team take part in a pizza-making master class provided by the Transcarpathian Regional Council’s Vocational School, explore the sights of Berehove, and revisit the Pacsirta Thermal Baths. To conclude, the students of the Tulipán Tanoda entertained the guests with folk songs, music, and dance. The children will travel home on Friday.
