The type of icon before the name of the map layer refers to the dimension of the geometries in the layer. For surface-type (2D) geometries, a square, for line-type (1D) geometries, a horizontal section, and for point-like (0D) geometries, a dot appears in the key to used signs.

The layer manager enables you to change and manage the visibility and some other properties of the map layers. With the two icons at the top of the layer manager, you can turn on the visibility of all layers simultaneously (icon: + sign next to the eye) or you can turn them off (icon: – sign next to the eye).
