CROSSING THE BORDERS – Studies on cross-border cooperation within the Danube Region – Case Study – Ister-Granum EGTC
Abstract
The basic aim of this case study is to investigate the one specific institutionalized cross-border cooperation between Slovakia and Hungary, specifically Ister Granum EGTC. Together 16 EGTCs are located within the area of the Slovak republic. Thirteen of them (approx. 81 %) are operated between Hungarian and Slovak border area. Thus we decided to make a case study of the Ister-Granum EGTC, oparated along Slovak-Hungary border, the oldest EGTC in central Europe (and the 2nd oldest EGTC in European Union).
This organisation should have the most experiences on cross border projects and also we were sure that it has made a huge variety of activities for the development of settlements on both sides of the border. Moreover, the Ister-Granum EGTC includes more than 80 municipalities and operates on a large area.
