CROSSING THE BORDERS – Studies on cross-border cooperation within the Danube Region – Case Study – Ister-Granum EGTC
Abstract
The primary aim of this case study is to examine a specific institutionalized cross-border cooperation between Slovakia and Hungary, with particular focus on the Ister-Granum EGTC. There are a total of 16 EGTCs within the territory of the Slovak Republic, 13 of which (approximately 81%) operate along the Slovak–Hungarian border. For this reason, we decided to conduct a case study on the Ister-Granum EGTC, which is the oldest EGTC in Central Europe (and the second oldest in the European Union).
This organization is therefore expected to have the most experience with cross-border projects, and we were confident that it had carried out numerous activities aimed at the development of settlements on both sides of the border. Moreover, the Ister-Granum EGTC includes more than 80 towns and operates across a large geographical area.
