Today, we welcomed children from Kharkiv region in Transcarpathia. This is the ninth group of children in three years and the fifth in a row from Kharkiv Oblast. These children came from the Slobozhanskyi urban community and the territorial communities of Donetsk, Vilhiv, and Prolisznyenszk. The children’s vacation is organized by the Tisza EGTC, founded by the Transcarpathian Regional Council and the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Assembly. The camp is funded by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Kharkiv region is currently going through very difficult times. Due to intense fighting in the region, 29 settlements are under temporary occupation. Another three settlements are considered “gray zones,” and more than 100 settlements have been completely abandoned by their residents due to the war. The evacuation of citizens from settlements where active fighting is taking place is ongoing in the Kharkiv region. Since August 2022, nearly 59,000 people have been evacuated from the Kharkiv region, including 6,381 children and 1,265 people with disabilities. Therefore, when organizing children’s programs in Transcarpathia, we consciously choose Kharkiv Oblast, because today it is practically the most dangerous zone, where children are in a constant state of stress, fear, and uncertainty. Children aged 9-14 can relax for seven days at the Helikon Hotel in the village of Jánosi in the Berehove district. We provide accommodation and three meals a day for the entire duration of the program. We have planned various excursions every day, including visits to Munkács Castle and the Tiszacsoma Memorial Park, where children can learn about folk games and try horse riding and archery. We will also provide the children with opportunities for relaxation and recharging their batteries at the Kaszony thermal baths. The cultural program includes master classes in creative skills development, handicrafts, and folk dance lessons.
