Preserving Bartók’s legacy – The MIKROKOSMOS program has been launched
Information
The INTERREG VI-A Romania-Hungary Cooperation Program is implementing a two-year cultural initiative called MIKROKOSMOS (project ID: ROHU00495), which focuses on the legacy of Béla Bartók and strengthens Hungarian-Romanian border relations.
The aim of the program, which is funded by the European Union, is to engage young people—from elementary school students to university students—through various artistic means, in the spirit of Bartók.
At the opening event held in the Thousand Years Park in Mórahalom, Zoltán Nógrádi, mayor of Mórahalom, emphasized:
“This project, based on cooperation between local governments and civil organizations, not only commemorates the past, but also builds communities and cultural bridges across the border.”
Memorial house in Bartók’s hometown
One of the major investments of the €1.887 million project will be in Nagyszentmiklós (Sânnicolau Mare), where a memorial house will be built in Béla Bartók’s hometown. The aim of the development is to showcase the composer’s legacy and encourage cultural tourism.
Cultural bridges without borders
Dr. Ágnes Tóthné Gróf, project manager, emphasized:
“In the coming months, we will launch programs that strengthen connections between young people, communities, and art forms across borders.”
The main elements of the project are:
Involvement of young people through exchange programs, master classes, and multidisciplinary workshops
Bartók Today – presentation of contemporary musical transcriptions
24-hour literary marathon
Instrument selection day
Post Partium concert series – 8 venues, new interpretations
Living heritage – a shared cultural future
The aim of MIKROKOSMOS is not only to preserve Bartók’s legacy, but also to reinterpret it in the language of the 21st century. The project provides an opportunity for future generations to actively engage with the spirit of one of the region’s greatest composers.
The project is supported by the INTERREG VI-A Romania-Hungary Cooperation Program.
