The Sajó-Rima/Slaná-Rimava European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation with Limited Liability was registered on 03.04.2013 with the membership of the municipalities of Rimavská Sobota, Ózd, Tornaľa and Putnok on the Hungarian-Slovak border section. The EGTC covers 249,5 km2, including the landscapes of Upponyi hills, Ózdi basin and the valleys of the rivers Sajó/Slaná and Rimava. The population of the EGTC is 72 460 and it is based in Putnok, Hungary.

The general objective of the EGTC is to strengthen the economic and social cohesion between the members of the grouping by involving the financial resources of the European Union and the two Member States concerned in the framework of cross-border cooperation.

The special goals of the EGTC include the implementation and support of joint economic development, infrastructural, regional development, spatial planning, environmental protection, health, social, public institutional, educational, cultural, leisure, research and innovation developments.
