On August 27, 2025, the program partners held an open day in Berehove, where they presented the progress of the Language APL project.

The participants were welcomed by István Csernicskó, rector of the Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College, Oszkár Seszták, president of Tisza EGTC, and György Balogh, consul of the Hungarian Consulate in Beregszász. The event was moderated by Tünde Tóth, director of the Charity Foundation for the Hungarian College of Transcarpathia.

Participants listened to a number of interesting presentations on the following topics: rights related to the use of minority languages in the work of local governments in Ukraine (István Csernicskó), presentation of the language use handbook and the partial results of the research conducted as part of the project (Kornélia Híres-László), report on the progress of the project (Andrea Szabóné Cap), report on the implementation of the project in Romania (Anett Egri), minority language use in Ukraine (Anatolij Vaszilecsko).

“Language accessibility is about offering people equal opportunities and chances to exercise their rights. We contribute to the democratization of society by striving to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all, and we are helping Ukraine to fulfill its international commitments, which it undertook to the Council of Europe when ratifying certain international conventions, and to fully comply with the European Union’s accession criteria in the area of ensuring the linguistic and national rights of minorities,” emphasized István Csernicskó, the project’s lead researcher.

Laws do not automatically prevail; without the active involvement of local communities, municipalities, and civil society organizations, rights exist only on paper!

The Language APL program is being implemented with the support of the European Union within the framework of the Interreg VI-A NEXT Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine Program 2021-2027.
