“Three Rivers Region” – Tourism Action Plan for the Cross-Border Area
Information
A comprehensive tourism development programme is being launched in the Lower Ipoly (Ipel) and Garam (Hron) river regions, as well as in the Börzsöny area. The action plan aims to transform the Hungarian–Slovak border region into a more integrated, attractive, and sustainable tourism destination.
As part of the action plan, development projects will be implemented at several locations. Historic sites will be renovated, visitor centres will be expanded, new recreational opportunities will be created, and access to the region’s attractions will be improved. The objective is not only to develop new tourism assets but also to encourage existing service providers to work together and present a coordinated tourism offering.
The developments are coordinated through the #connect – Coordination and Communication Project (CCP). Within this framework, the Pontibus EGTC and the Ister–Granum EGTC are responsible not only for coordinating the progress of the individual projects but also for supporting their implementation, facilitating cooperation among stakeholders, and organising joint professional platforms, meetings, and knowledge-sharing events. The aim is to ensure that the individual investments come together as a coherent and integrated tourism destination.
The project is implemented with the support of the Interreg VI-A Hungary–Slovakia Programme.
The Coordination and Communication Project has received EUR 312,310 in European Union funding, of which EUR 156,155 is allocated to Pontibus EGTC.
The project is being implemented in cooperation between Pontibus EGTC and Ister–Granum EGTC, working closely with municipalities and tourism stakeholders across the region. The partnership aims to ensure that the individual developments reinforce one another, benefiting the region as a whole through increased visitor numbers, longer stays, and a stronger local economy.
