The MURABA European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation with Limited Liability was registered on 15.08.2017. The grouping includes two local municipalities and the national representations of the Hungarians living in Slovenia and the Slovenes living in Hungary. The grouping covers an area of 511,6 km2, including the Muravidék/Prekmurje, the Lendava creek, the Rábamente/Porabje and the southern part of the feet of the Alps. The seat of the EGTC is located in the Hungarian city of Szentgotthárd, the population of the 36 settlements impacted by the operation of the EGTC amounts to 22 700 people. 

The objectives of the EGTC are the following:

  • promoting cross-border economic and social co-operation and strengthening territorial cohesion in the area of operation, mixed inhabited by Hungarian and Slovenian national communities; 
  • improving well-being and quality of life in the territory of the EGTC;
  • facilitating the enforcement of the rights of Hungarian and Slovenian nationalities enshrined in law, preserving national identities and keeping their relations with their motherlands.
