The closing conference of the MESSAGES – “Untold Stories – Pilgrimage along the Hungarian–Slovenian Border Region” project was held in Lendava on 29 June 2026.

As a result of the joint efforts of the project partners, a new cross-border pilgrimage route has been established. The project’s outstanding religious and cultural heritage sites have been identified, presented, and connected, while a range of supporting research, digital and tourism-related materials have also been developed. In addition, educational programmes were created to introduce the shared heritage of the region to younger generations in an engaging and interactive way.

During the conference, the project partners presented the project’s main achievements, including a series of educational activities designed for primary school pupils and the award-winning entries of the international children’s drawing competition. An exhibition featuring the winning artworks was also opened at the conference venue.

The MESSAGES project has demonstrated that cross-border cooperation not only contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage but also creates new opportunities for tourism development and community building in the Hungarian–Slovenian border region.
