On 22 June 2026, Via Carpatia European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (Via Carpatia EGTC) held the official press conference of the #gemer action plan in Slavoška, presenting the cross-border cooperation initiative that aims to give new momentum to the tourism development of the Gemer region in the coming years.

Implemented with the support of the Interreg Hungary–Slovakia Programme, the Make GMR Great Again initiative brings together nine partners from Slovakia and Hungary over a period of 40 months. Their common goal is to further enhance the attractiveness of Gemer’s cultural heritage, natural assets, and active tourism offer by developing the region into a unified cross-border tourism destination.

The infrastructure developments planned within the action plan are built around three main thematic pillars: HISTORY, ACTIVE, and BIKE. These development packages combine cultural heritage, natural values, active tourism, and cycling tourism into an integrated tourism offer.

Via Carpatia EGTC is responsible for coordinating the action plan, supporting the partnership cooperation, and implementing joint marketing activities for the region. In addition, the EGTC supports tourism stakeholders through training programmes and professional study visits, contributing to the creation and strengthening of a unified tourism brand for Gemer.
