The current chapter of the Crossing the Borders volume aims to provide a possible comprehensive overview on the institutionalised cross-border cooperation initiatives of the Danube Region. This overview is expected to shed light upon the macroregional inequalities of cross-border cooperation both in quantity and in quality.

The review on the cross-border cooperation initiatives of the Danube Region works with a multiple categorization of initiatives, taking into account the institutional forms, work intensity, linguistic and historical ties, their thematic scope, their duration and their membership. Furthermore, this investigation may reveal some unique characteristics of cross-border economic and social ties.
