Crossing the borders – Studies on cross-border cooperation within the Danube Region – A classification of the cross-border cooperation initiatives of the Danube Region

Abstract

The current chapter of the Crossing the Borders volume aims to provide a comprehensive overview on the institutionalised cross-border cooperation initiatives of the Danube Region. This overview is expected to explore the macroregional inequalities of cross-border cooperation, both in quantity and in quality.

The chapter on the cross-border cooperation initiatives of the Danube Region works with a multi-dimensional categorization, taking into account the institutional forms, work intensity, linguistic and historical ties, their thematic scope, their duration and their membership. Furthermore, this research may reveal some unique characteristics of cross-border economic and social ties.
