EU-level recognition: Arrabona EGTC selected as a host organisation for the Border Regions Peer Exchange Programme

Arrabona EGTC chosen among Europe’s border region organisations to showcase its good practice.

Arrabona EGTC has been selected as one of the host organisations for the Border Regions Peer Exchange on Solving Border Obstacles programme. Initiated by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and implemented by the Fundación CEER, the programme aims to enable stakeholders from European border regions to learn from one another by sharing practical experiences in addressing cross-border obstacles.

This selection represents a significant professional recognition for Arrabona EGTC. Among numerous cross-border initiatives across Europe, our organisation has been chosen as one of only ten host organisations to welcome international peer-learning visits and facilitate the exchange of practical expertise.

The professional study visit organised by Arrabona EGTC will focus on the WATREG – Joint Water Tourism Platform for the HU–SK Border initiative. The programme will demonstrate how regulatory, informational, and practical barriers affecting water tourism in the Hungarian–Slovak border region can be addressed, while presenting solutions that support the development of cross-border cooperation.

The study visit is scheduled to take place on 15–16 December 2026 in Győr and the Gönyű area. Participants will have the opportunity to explore:

  • the results and good practices of the WATREG project;
  • a comparative overview of the Hungarian and Slovak regulatory frameworks for water tourism;
  • the multilingual online knowledge-sharing platform currently under development; and
  • practical lessons learned during the implementation of the project.

The programme is primarily intended for professionals working in active tourism, destination management organisations, EGTCs, national parks, environmental education organisations, and institutions involved in tourism product development. It offers valuable opportunities to gain practical insights into overcoming cross-border challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
