On 12-13 December 2024, Pannon EGTC organised the first event of their project supported by the International Visegrad Fund in Pécs, together with the University of Pécs.

On 12-13 December 2024, Pannon EGTC and its partners met in Pécs for the kick-off meeting. During the event, the partners discussed the steps and milestones that will determine the progress of the project.

The project aims to explore opportunities for cooperation between universities in the field of regional development and economic development related to the green transition through education and research. The project aims to develop a joint action plan and a repository of best practices to become a catalyst for the transition.

On the first day, Dr. Péter Merza, Director of the Pannon EGTC and Dr. István Tarrósy, Director of the International Centre of the University of Pécs welcomed the guests and officially opened the kick-off meeting. After the opening ceremony, Dr. Tímea Csetnek, Project Manager of the Pannon EGTC, gave a presentation on the purpose of the meeting, the project activities and the role of the partners.  After an ambience maker quiz, the partners talked about the project budget, internal reporting procedures and supporting documents related to the internal reporting process. In the second half of the day, each participant presented a situation analysis of their institution’s green efforts. The partners were actively involved in developing the content and structure of the first two deliverables of the project. The partners divided the sub-activities among themselves and defined who was responsible for which part of the development of the situation analysis and the practical data repository. A clear timetable was set and key deliverables identified to ensure that all participants mutually understood the objectives and role of the project. They defined the structure and format of the repository of good practices, ensuring that it is comprehensive, user-friendly and adaptable to different institutional contexts.

On the second day, participants were introduced to the environmental sustainability efforts of the University of Pécs. The participants visited the University of Pécs, the Faculty of Medicine, the Botanical Garden, the administrative buildings where waste management methods were demonstrated, etc. The partners discussed the 12 green actions that the partners will undertake during the implementation of the project and will share these actions among themselves. The participants travelled by bus and later by electric cars of the University of Pécs from the hotel to the university.

The meeting was not only about planning and assigning tasks, but also about building a strong basis for cooperation. It provided an opportunity for the partners to align their expectations, share ideas on the project and establish effective communication channels. They want to raise public and academic awareness of the importance of climate and environmental cooperation and green policy cooperation.

The event was financed by the Visegrad Fund.
