The Active Ageing Centre has been operating for three years now – cooperation without borders

The Active Ageing Centre is celebrating its third anniversary. Thanks to VIA CARPATIA EGTC, of which the Košice Self-Governing Region and the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Self-Governing Region are founding members, we have managed to improve the quality of life of Slovak and Hungarian seniors through an innovative approach. At the centre, age is not a barrier, but an advantage.

A successful partnership

The centre is proof that local authorities, regions and international partners can work together to create projects that have a real impact on quality of life. Thanks to support and mutual trust, the elderly can now spend their time actively, with dignity and in a community, regardless of which side of the border they live on.

The Centre is the fruit of cross-border cooperation

Thanks to its location and the cross-border team of ambassadors made up of lecturers, many people now regard the Centre as their second home. It is a meeting place where older people can meet exceptional people and take part in interesting activities. Dance classes, strength and health exercises, creative workshops, lectures, discussions, quizzes, excursions, and even cooking and gardening together – all this shows the colourful and lively everyday life of the Centre.

In three years, more than 990 programmes and meetings have taken place, but most importantly, lasting friendships and memories have been created. The database already has more than 800 members, of whom more than 30 regularly lead various activities for other seniors.
