The Tisza European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation with Limited Liability celebrated its fifth anniversary at a special jubilee event in Kisvárda on 13 September 2021.

Besides the founding members, a number of high-ranking guests from Hungary and Ukraine attended the event. First, Andrea Szabóné Cap, director of the Tisza EGTC, welcomed the participants then she gave the floor to Tibor Leleszi, mayor of Kisvárda, who also greeted the guests.

Slaven Klobučar, Administrator of the Secretariat of the Committee of the Regions EGTC Platform, welcomed all participants to the anniversary celebrations in a video message, on behalf of the COTER Commission. He recalled shared memories and successful events organised in cooperation.

Péter Kiss-Parciu, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, who is responsible for cross-border economic development, highlighted in his welcome speech that in spite of initial doubts, the Tisza EGTC has proven its legitimacy in recent years and has taken significant steps towards the development of the Hungarian-Ukrainian border region through the successful implementation of projects.

Andrea Szabóné Cap, Director of the Tisza EGTC, gave a detailed presentation on the events of the past five years. She thanked the partners and sponsors for their contribution, highlighting in particular the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Over the past five years, the ministry allocated nearly 72 million forints to support the Association’s operations and the successful implementation of its individual projects.

Oszkár Seszták, President of the Tisza EGTC and President of the General Assembly of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, and Oleksiy Petrov, Co-President of the Tisza EGTC and President of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, gave a speech on behalf of the founders, while Mihajlo Laba and Anatoliy Kostiuch, representatives of the Supreme Council of Ukraine, László Brenzovics, representative of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, Jaroslav Lazur, Dean of the Faculty of Law of the National University of Uzhgorod, and, representing the University of Miskolc, Antal Serfőző, managing director of GeoGold Kárpátia Ltd. addressed the participants.

István Dudás, campaign manager and Dr. Miklós Seszták, government commissioner and representative of the Municipality of Kisvárda, handed over a certificate on behalf of the region’s MP, as a recognition of the outstanding achievements of the Association.

Last but not least, Gyula Ocskay, Secretary General of the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI), and who personally played a major role in the establishment of the Association, thanked Andrea Szabóné Cap, Director, and Judit Jevcsák, Deputy Director, for their hard work while also recalling many positive memories.

The event was concluded with the showing of a promotional short film introducing the Association’s area of operation, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Carpathian counties.
