Disaster management cooperation in the Slovak-Hungarian border region

The project HUSK/2302/1.2/081, Cross-Border Disaster Risk Prevention Cooperation (#riskcoop), is implemented in cooperation of 11 partners between 01.07.2024 and 31.12.2026 with a total grant of 1.018 729,76 EUR within the Interreg VI-A Hungary-Slovakia Programme.

The partnership is composed of professional and voluntary disaster management organisations and municipalities from both sides of the Slovak-Hungarian border.

The aim of the project is to increase the efficiency of disaster management by developing civil helpers and improving the equipment of intervention units. Fire engines and special equipment will be purchased, new fire brigades will be built and reconstructed.

To improve cross-border protection cooperation, the project partners will organise professional training, cross-border joint exercises and competitions. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving the knowledge of local rescue managers and on reaching out to the general public, especially young people, with the primary aim of prevention and recruitment into organisations.

In the Arrabona EGTC part of the project, emphasis will be placed on the legislation’s aim to familiarise and deepen the knowledge of municipal leaders, as local leaders of the emergency services, in a simulation exercise, thus also facilitating cooperation between civilians and voluntary rescue organisations.

This part of the project will provide equipment for the volunteer fire brigades of Mierovo and Kunsziget.

The project will result in a comprehensive study of the legal, professional, organisational and methodological conditions for effective and rapid bilateral cooperation in disaster preparedness and rescue. This will be elaborated and proposals for solutions will be outlined in a methodological study, including a situation analysis, a common methodology and an intervention plan, and proposals taking into account the needs of disaster management organisations.

The implementation of this part of the project will help to improve disaster preparedness in the border region, develop the professional framework and cooperation between the rescue organisations of the two countries, and increase the safety and security of the people living in the region.
