Ister-Granum EGTC is the lead partner in the SLOWDOWN project funded by the Interreg-Europe programme

The project focuses on slow tourism. The kick-off meeting of the project involving partners from France, Italy, Finland, Romania, Spain, and Ireland took place between 18 and 20 June 2024. The Ister-Granum EGTC hosted the partners.
On the first day of the meeting, the partners participated in a workshop at the recently inaugurated Danubium Visitor Centre in Kravany nad Dunajom. All of them presented their organisation and discussed the topic of slow tourism. The afternoon was spent getting to know Kravany nad Dunajom and its region. The mayor of the municipality, Gábor Duka guided the participants at the Danube boardwalk, presenting the village’s developments in recent years. They visited Géza Varga’s farm and then tried the so-called “bőgös” boat on a short tour of the Danube. At the end of the day, they visited the Vintop Karkó winery in Búč and learned about other tourist services offered by the company.
On Wednesday, the professional work continued at the Vadaš Spa in Štúrovo. The guests reviewed the timetable for the project implementation, the budget, as well as, the accounting and reporting obligations. Staff from the Finnish university participating in the project gave a presentation on the methodology used to assess the state of slow tourism in each partner region.
During the afternoon, the partners tested the Maria Valeria Bike rental system in practice. From Štúrovo, they cycled up to the Basilica of Esztergom, and then had the opportunity to discover Europe’s fourth-largest cathedral with the help of a guide. Then they visited Nagybörzsöny, where mayor Oszkár Paulik welcomed the group of nearly 30 people. He introduced the village’s slow-tourism features and offered a gastronomic specialty of Nagybörzsöny, the flatbread, baked in his oven.
On the final morning of the kick-off meeting, the participants gathered again in the Vadaš Spa in Štúrovo, where they listened to a presentation on the involvement of local partners, and summarised and evaluated the results of the partner meeting.
