Sacher House in Želiezovce to gain new functions

Supported by the Interreg VI-A Hungary–Slovakia Programme, the “Region of Three Rivers” (#connect) Tourism Action Plan aims to create a unified, competitive, and long-term sustainable tourism destination along the Lower Ipeľ, the Hron River, and the Börzsöny region. This objective will be achieved through new tourism developments, the active involvement of existing tourism providers, and the creation of integrated, experience-based tourism packages.

Located in the heart of the Lower Hron region, the approximately 250-year-old Sacher House in Želiezovce represents an important element of both the town’s heritage and the wider cultural and gastronomic legacy of Central Europe. The legacy of the Sacher family extends far beyond the town itself, forming a significant part of the region’s historical identity.

As part of the investment implemented by CSEMADOK Želiezovce, the historic building will be transformed into a modern interactive exhibition space. Drawing on authentic historical sources, the exhibition will present the life of Franz Sacher, explore the relationship between the Sacher family and Želiezovce, and trace the origins and development of the Sacher cultural tradition.

A key feature of the project is the creation of a community pastry and demonstration workshop, inspired by the world-famous Sachertorte. The facility will host hands-on workshops, gastronomic programmes, and team-building events, offering visitors an immersive culinary experience. The tourism offer will be complemented by a gift shop featuring locally made handicrafts and products from regional artisan producers, supporting both the building’s long-term sustainable operation and the local economy.

The #connect4 project also includes developments at four additional locations across the region, each contributing to the enhancement of cultural tourism infrastructure and the overall visitor experience.
