The project ” Untold Stories (Messages) – Pilgrimages on the Hungarian-Slovenian Border “, co-funded by the Interreg SI-HU cross-border cooperation programme, was presented by János Magyar, Mayor of Lendava Municipality, Sabo Gerenčer Metka, Project Coordinator, Zoltán Kepe, Lendvai museologist and Mateja Kučan, Project Manager of MURABA ETT at a press conference held on 1 October 2024 at the Lendava Town Hall.

The project, which started in January, aims to strengthen pilgrimage tourism in the border region, survey and connect sites, and develop new pilgrimage routes. The project is worth €337,000, with a co-financing share of €198,000 and a commitment of €98,700 for the Municipality of Lendava as project partner. MURABA ETT is the lead partner. The new tourism product aims to link the two regions by presenting the tragic life stories of two important people: the former priest of the Diocese of Szombathely, Blessed János Brenner, and Dániel Halász, the chaplain of Velika Polana. The project will include research on the lives of the martyrs (Lendava Gallery-Museum) and a digital inventory of the border area. The results will also be displayed in a travelling exhibition. The project will pay special attention to young people through creative activities and drawing competitions. The deadline for the completion of the “Messages” project is the end of June 2026, when a closing conference is planned.
