The Ipoly Valley European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation with Limited Liability has been effectively working for several years to strengthen cross-border links, which has now been taken to a higher level by the project “Developing an integrated age-friendly region within the area of the Ipoly-valley EGTC” (IpOLD). Supported by the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Hungary Cooperation Programme, the project seeks innovative answers to the challenges of an ageing rural society. During the project, novel concepts such as second career, silver economy, active ageing, digital technology in care of the elderly and the favor bank system were introduced. The main message of the project is that the elderly have resources that can make them an active part of the community.

In the course of the development, a total of 15 settlements’ public kitchens were renewed: large kitchen appliances, cooking and storage utensils and other kitchen utensils were purchased. In addition, the mobility of older people is increased by two vehicles purchased, which facilitate the availability of services for the elderly.

The IpOLD project is an initial step that prepares and paves the way for the establishment of an innovative cooperation on the elderly in response to the needs of the cross-border region.

The project, which started in November 2020, is expected to end in the summer of 2023 and has received a total grant of EUR 293,000.
